If you’ve already jumped on the Nest Cam train and are now wondering how to get the best subscription, you’re not alone. In fact, there are plenty of different options available and it’s easy to become confused. Here are some tips to help you find the right option for you.
Set up an activity zone on your Nest Cams
If you’re a Nest Aware subscriber, you may have already noticed that you can set up an Activity Zone. These activity zones allow you to alert on movement or a specific person in your home. This means you can check on your home even when you’re away. You can also use Activity Zones to stop unnecessary notifications.
As a subscriber, you have access to a lot of features. For example, you can use Face Recognition to block notifications for your friends. Also, you can save video clips and share them with family and friends. And, if you’re a Google Nest owner, you can respond to alerts directly from the Google Home app.
It’s also possible to set up Activity Zones on a non-subscribed Nest Cam. However, the free plan is limited to three hours of snapshots. The only way to get more is to subscribe to a plan.
To create an activity zone, you need to first sign up for a subscription. Depending on your needs, you can opt for a $6 or $12 per month plan.
Access your entire video history in a 30-day trial subscription
The Nest Aware service from Google allows you to save videos to the cloud and also see your entire video history. It’s a great way to check in on your house when you’re away, and you can view and share clips. If you aren’t a current subscriber, it’s worth checking out a 30-day free trial.
To sign up, you’ll need to create a Google account. Then, you’ll be able to subscribe to Nest Aware by visiting the Google Store or by downloading the Nest app.
For $12 per month, you’ll be able to access up to 60 days of event video history. You’ll also receive notifications and alerts when the alarm is triggered and when a person is spotted.
You can also get alerts and notification from the Nest Hello doorbell, and you can even dial 911 from the Google Home app. However, you’ll need to have a Nest camera to use the service.
The entry level plan offers up to 10 days of video history. But for a mere $6 a month, you can get a full 30 days of video history, as well as an emergency call to the closest 911 service.
Upgrade from an old to new subscription
If you own a Nest camera, you can subscribe to Nest Aware. This subscription lets you record video and keep track of important events in your home. You can also receive alerts when an important event happens.
The Nest Aware subscription is available for $10 per month or $100 per year. It also includes the option to call 911 directly from the Home app.
In Canada, the Nest Aware subscription will be billed on a per-home basis. Previously, the pricing was charged per device. However, the tiers have been simplified.
For $10, you get 30 days of activity history, a ten-day continuous video history, and a 30-day backup. As for the $16 plan, you get three hours of real-time video, a ten-day continuous video, and a 60-day backup.
With the new subscription, you can also monitor your Nest Hub Max, as well as receive alerts when your alarms go off or when your kids leave the house. Google said it will add more features later this year.
